Ashgabat hosts annual courses on the Energy Charter Program

On 1-2 June, 2017, in Ashgabat, the annual courses on the Energy Charter program were held at the International University of Oil and Gas. Within the framework of the courses 4 sessions were held:

1. EURASIAN ENERGY SECURITY CHALLENGES AND THE ROLE OF GAS THROUGH TO 2030: HOW TO HANDLE, WHAT TO EXPECT?

2. THE ROLE OF CONVENTIONAL AND UNCONVENTIONAL OIL AND GAS SUPPLIES IN EURASIAN ENERGY SECURITY THROUGH 2030;

3. MOBILISING INVESTMENTS AND DIVERSIFYING DELIVERY ROUTES IN ORDER TO STRENGTHEN THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE GAS AND OIL SUPPLY;

4. THE ARRIVAL OF THE AGE OF LNG: WHAT IS THE IMPACT FOR NATURAL GAS DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS AND THE WIDER ENERGY MARKETS?   

 The lecturers of the Energy Charter program were Professor Jack Sharples, Energy Policy and Energy Law Professor at the European University in St. Petersburg, Volkan Ozdemir, Executive Director of the EPPEN Institute for Energy Studies in Ankara, Andrei Bely, Associate Professor of the University of East Finland Energy Sector Analyst, Irina Mironova, Institute for Energy Studies in the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow,  Richard Willer, Managing Director of the Center for Dialogue on Energy Security (California, USA), former senior energy security adviser to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

In addition to discussing specific energy issues, the course included interactive group work and game modeling of negotiations, and discussion of national energy strategies.
