On March 9, 2017, a solemn reception was held at the UN Headquarters in New York, organized by the Permanent Missions of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in honor of the 25th anniversary of joining the UN.
The Chairman of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson, heads of UN agencies with the rank of Deputy Secretary General, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in New York, Permanent Representatives to the United Nations took part in the reception.
Speaking on behalf of the Central Asian countries as the dean of the diplomatic corps, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, Ambassador A.Ataeva stressed the initiatives of the Central Asian countries in the field of energy, transport and communication, water issues, mountain development, environmental protection and the creation of a zone free from nuclear weapons in Central Asia.
In his speech, the Chairman of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly P. Thompson stressed the great contribution of the Central Asian countries on many issues of development and security, which were confirmed by the adoption of the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly. P. Thomson urged all UN member states to follow the example of the Central Asian countries to be friendly and united.
During the reception, a photo exhibition was organized, dedicated to the important historical events of each of the countries of Central Asia for the 25-year history at the UN.
