On March 15, 2017, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid a state visit to the State of Qatar.
From the international airport of Doha, the motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan went to the official residence reserved for the visit, which was accommodated in the hotel "St.Regis Doha". After a while, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left for the Palace of the Emir of the State of Qatar.
On the square in front of the Palace, the head of Turkmenistan was warmly and cordially welcomed by the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The leaders of the two countries, after exchanging friendly handshakes, went to a special place to the rostrum. Then the official welcome ceremony of the high Turkmen guest was held.
Then Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov went to the Palace. Here the members of the official delegation of Qatar were presented to the high Turkmen guest. The Emir of Qatar also got acquainted with the members of the official delegation of Turkmenistan.
At the end of the official ceremony, the heads of the two states went to the Great Meeting Room, where negotiations began in an expanded format, with the participation of the delegations from the two countries.
Speaking in Doha before governmental delegations of the two countries, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that he considers this visit as an event that will give a powerful impetus to the development of friendly relations between Turkmenistan and the State of Qatar. One of the key areas of the Turkmen-Qatar relations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov outlined cooperation in the field of transport, in particular, the development of sea and air communications.
It was noted the coincidence of positions on issues of interaction within the framework of international structures, first of all, the United Nations, the Islamic Cooperation Organization and others.
Having exchanged views on a wide range of issues of the Turkmen-Qatar partnership, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani made specific approaches to the implementation of effective cooperation in various fields. After the negotiations, a ceremony of signing bilateral documents took place.
The following documents have been signed: the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Training for Diplomats between the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Institute of Diplomacy of the State of Qatar. At the intergovernmental level, memorandums of understanding on the development of cooperation in the field of energy and on cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology, certification and accreditation, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of biodiversity and wildlife conservation have been signed. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the State National Service Turkmenhovayollary and the Civil Aviation Administration of the State of Qatar.
After the ceremony, the Heads of the States left the palace and went to Al Shakab Equestrian Centre where the President of Turkmenistan was familiarized with organization and work of this famous centre. . The model of the centre with all arenas of this unique facility, which is built in the shape of horseshoe, was presented to high-rank guest.
Within the framework of the visit, Qatar side hosted the Turkmen-Qatar business forum, on the agenda of which issues related to the determination and agreement of new approaches to strengthening trade and economic relations and business contacts were raised.
On the same day, on the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, members of the governmental delegation of Turkmenistan held bilateral meetings in Doha with the heads of the foreign and economic, oil, gas, financial, banking, transport, environmental, sports, scientific and educational sectors and business structures of the State of Qatar. Within the framework of the working meetings and consultations, a wide range of issues related to the intensification of cooperation was discussed.
