On May 18, 2017 Turkmenistan widely celebrated one of the most important dates on the national calendar – Constitution Day and Makhtumkuli Fragi’s Poetry Day. By tradition, the festive events started at the Constitution Monument.
The solemn event was attended by the government members, leaders of Mejlis, ministries and agencies, Ashgabat city khyakimlik, heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan, and foreign businessmen. Representatives of public organizations, labor collectives from the capital, mass media, honorable elders, students, art and cultural workers also took part in the festivities.
The presidential car arrived at the festively decorated square in front of the Monument. Having greeted the participants of the ceremony, the head of state walked along the carpet to a special place on the square in front of the Constitution Monument. The National Anthem of Turkmenistan was played.
The President of Turkmenistan laid a wreath at the Constitution Monument, which symbolizes the inviolability of foundations of the democratic, law-governed and secular state, and solidarity of the people of Turkmenistan.
After the head of state, the chairman of the Mejlis and members of the government, heads of military and law enforcement bodies laid wreaths and bouquets of flowers. They were joined by heads of the ministries and departments, public organizations, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Turkmenistan, elders, student youth, numerous residents and guests of the capital.
After the ceremony the motorcade of the head of state arrived in the center of the Turkmen capital - in the square of Makhtumkuli.
The President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was the first to lay a wonderful wreath – as a token of deep gratitude and reverence for the great Turkmen poet’s civic courage and poetic talent. Following the head of state, the chairman and deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, deputy chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, other participants of the ceremony laid the flowers at the foot of the monument.
At the end of the ceremony, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov warmly bid farewell to its participants and departed from the scene.
