On May 30, 2017, at the UN headquarters in New York on the initiative of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, the Fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were presented.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson, UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, Acting Deputy Secretary General for Communication and Public Information Maher Nasser, heads of UN agencies, Permanent Representatives and staff members of the UN member states.
Turkmenistan's Permanent Representative to the UN A.Ataeva, opening the photo exhibition, noted that sport is one of the important factors of a healthy nation, social and economic development of the country, and also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. In her speech A.Atayeva said that the holding of the Fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat in 2017 will be a significant event not only for Turkmenistan, but also for many countries of Asia and Oceania.
In his speech, Peter Thomson noted the personal contribution of the President of Turkmenistan to the development of the sports industry and the transformation of the country into an athletic power. He added that he was proud that his country Fiji would take part for the first time in the Fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan.
At the exhibition were photos of the Olympic town, the symbols of the Asian Games-2017, as well as video clips dedicated to the Fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
