Turkmen-Tajik political consultations were held in Dushanbe

On July 13, 2017 Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov arrived to the Republic of Tajikistan on a working visit.

On the 14th of July, bilateral political consultations were held at the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan. The delegation of Tajikistan was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sirodzhiddin Aslov.

During the consultations, the sides exchanged views on topical issues of the international and regional agenda, the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation. The parties unanimously noted that the permanent political dialogue and the legal basis of interstate relations are at the necessary level. Issues of expansion of partnership in the spheres of trade, energy, implementation of joint projects in the transport sphere, and greater interaction in the spheres of science, education, culture and health were discussed.

Following the meeting, the Program of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2018-2019 years was signed.

During the visit, the delegation of Turkmenistan was received by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. The meeting reviewed the current state and prospects of interstate relations between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.

The need to intensify the activities of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Tajik commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation, to ensure a permanent dialogue between business circles and state companies, the creation of the Work Council and the opening of the Trade Houses was stressed.

The parties also discussed issues related to the interaction of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan within the framework of regional and international organizations, on security issues, the fight against international terrorism and extremism, illicit drug trafficking and active participation in the normalization of the situation in Afghanistan.
