On December 5, 2017, the ninth meeting of the Turkmen-Austrian joint commission was held in Ashgabat. The meeting was chaired from Turkmen part by the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, from Austrian part by Director General for foreign economic relations of the Federal Ministry of science, research and economy of the Republic of Austria Franz Wessig.
At the beginning of the meeting, the sides summed up the results of the work of the Turkmen-Austrian joint commission for the year in the context of implementing the agreements reached at the eighth meeting of the commission held in September 2016 in the capital of the Austrian Republic, Vienna.
Having positively evaluated the results of the work done to implement the agreements reached earlier, the parties presented information on the state of the Turkmen-Austrian trade turnover and made proposals to increase it in the future. In this regard, the sides stressed that the opening of the representation of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan in June in Vienna will become a link between the business circles of Turkmenistan and European countries and will promote the expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting the sides discussed prospects of development and strengthening of bilateral cooperation in various areas of the economy, as well as in the areas of health, science and tourism. It was also noted the need for regular meetings of working groups in various areas and active participation of interested Turkmen and Austrian business circles in exhibitions, fairs and conferences held in the territories of both countries.
At the end of the ninth meeting of the joint Turkmen-Austrian Commission the final Protocol had been signed.
As part of the commission's work, the Turkmen-Austrian business forum was held, as well as bilateral meetings between representatives of Austrian companies and members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, as well as heads of various organizations and departments of the country.
In addition, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Austria in the musical-drama theatre named after Magtymguly there was a concert of music of the Austrian band "Cobario".
