On December 10, 2019, a round table was held in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, dedicated to the approval of the National Strategy of Turkmenistan to prevent violent extremism and counter terrorism for 2020-2024. As is known, the corresponding Resolution was signed on December 6 this year, by the Leader of the Nation during an extended meeting of the Government of Turkmenistan.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan in conjunction with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia.
The round table was attended by the heads and representatives of several ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, National Security, Internal Affairs, Justice, Defense, Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, the General Prosecutor's Office of Turkmenistan, the Supreme Court of Turkmenistan, the State Migration Service, the Border Guard Service, the Customs Service Turkmenistan and the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan. The event was also attended by the Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia and Permanent Representatives of Turkmenistan to the United Nations (New York), Geneva and Vienna UN offices.
The overall goal of the round table is to discuss the next steps to implement the tasks arising from the National Strategy of Turkmenistan to prevent violent extremism and counter terrorism for 2020-2024.
During the speeches, it was particularly noted that today in our country all the conditions have been created for the comprehensive counter-terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism.
As is known, the work done by the Government of Turkmenistan over the years of independence in this area is huge and productive. Today, the current legislation of the country is fully consistent with international legal standards. The international community highly appreciates the Turkmen policy regarding countering terrorism and extremism in all its manifestations.
