On December 11, 2019, a meeting was held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asian countries, Richard Komenda.
During the meeting, the current state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights was discussed. In the framework of joint activities with international organizations in the field of human rights, national reports on the implementation of the provisions of the human rights conventions to which Turkmenistan was a member were submitted to the UN Committees.
The National Report on the implementation of the International Convention on the liquidation of all forms of racial discrimination, which will be submitted to the Committee on the liquidation of racial discrimination according to the schedule, is currently completed.
On August 27-28, 2019, a seminar was held to prepare this report with the assistance of UNDP Turkmenistan for members of the working group of the Interagency Commission to ensure the implementation of Turkmenistan s international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law.
During the meeting, the representative of UNCHR noted the importance of enhancing capacity and knowledge in the field of human rights, reported on the existing experience in the developing Master’s programs for universities and training courses for government servants. The issues of general cooperation with national partners and prospects for 2020 were also discussed.
At the end of the meeting, issues of cooperation within the framework of international organizations and joint projects of cooperation of Turkmenistan with UNCHR in the field of human rights were discussed.
