On February 18, 2020, the Scientific-Practical Conference «The Policy of Neutrality and Culture of Peace» dedicated to the 25th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan under the slogan “Turkmenistan – Home of Neutrality” and the Day of Diplomats of Turkmenistan was held in the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The Conference was complemented by the Exhibition dedicated to the 25th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan and the Day of Diplomats of Turkmenistan.
The heads and employees of the diplomatic service of Turkmenistan, representatives of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, heads of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations working in Turkmenistan, teachers and students of higher educational institutions, representatives of public organizations of our country, as well as the representatives of national and foreign press, accredited in Turkmenistan, participated in the work of the Conference.
In the beginning of the Conference, the Congratulatory Address of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the participants of the Scientific-Practical Conference «The Policy of Neutrality and Culture of Peace» was read. It is said in the Address that the efforts of our homeland aimed at the maintenance of global peace, security and stable development gained vast support of the international community.
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia Gherman, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Elena Panova, Regional Representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central Asia Ryszard Komenda, IOM Regional Coordinator for Central Asia Zeinal Hajiyev, as well as the Country Director of UNFPA in Turkmenistan Giullia Valleze gave speeches at the event. Then the heads and faculty members of the institutions of higher education of Turkmenistan gave speeches.
During the speeches it was noted that the agenda pertaining to the announcement of the year 2020 as “Turkmenistan – Home of Neutrality” is well-timed and “the Conception of the External Policy Course of Neutral Turkmenistan for the period of 2017-2023” is based on the principles of mutual understanding and mutual respect which stand as a valuable heritage of the ancestors of Turkmen people.
Then the Address of the participants of the Scientific-Practical Conference «The Policy of Neutrality and Culture of Peace» to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was adopted where sincere gratitude for the special attention towards the issues of diplomatic service of the country was noted.
In the end of the Conference, the award ceremony of the diplomas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to young diplomats and senior students of the Institute of the International Relations took place.
