Delegation of Turkmenistan participated in the 76th Session of the Executive Committee of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

In early October 2025, a delegation from Turkmenistan led by the head of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan Amanmuhammet Sazakov participated in the 76th Session of the Executive Committee of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), held at UN Headquarters in Geneva.

During the session, the results of the activities of the Committee for the past year were reviewed, as well as the work program for the upcoming period approved.

The delegation of Turkmenistan led by the head of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan Amanmuhammet Sazakov participated in the plenary meeting of this Session.

In his speech, A. Sazakov outlined the results of Turkmenistan’s practical implementation of its international obligations. It was emphasized that, in accordance with international law, Turkmenistan successfully completed the UN Global Campaign “#IBelong” in 2024, aimed at eliminating statelessness worldwide.

As a result of the strong commitment and political will of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, more than 32,000 stateless persons have received Turkmen citizenship.

Turkmenistan continues to actively cooperate with UNHCR in developing new programs aimed at protecting the rights of refugees and stateless persons.

On the sidelines of the 76th Session of the UNHCR Executive Committee, Amanmuhammet Sazakov, head of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, met with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

At the beginning of the meeting, Amanmuhammet Sazakov conveyed greetings to Mr. Filippo Grandi on behalf of the leadership of Turkmenistan and expressed gratitude for the constructive cooperation.

During the conversation, the sides highlighted the high level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNHCR, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening collaboration in the humanitarian sphere, particularly in protecting the rights of refugees and stateless persons.

In turn, Filippo Grandi expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for its comprehensive support and attention to the issues of refugees, as well as kindly asked to convey gratitude to the Esteemed President of Turkmenistan and the National Leader of the Turkmen People, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan for their consistent support of UNHCR’s activities and commitment to humanitarian principles. The interlocutors confirmed their readiness to continue active dialogue and further expand cooperation within the framework of international initiatives to protect the rights of refugees and support them.
