

On 20 January 2026, a meeting was held at the Embassy of Turkmenistan between the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the People’s Republic of China and the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Nurlan Yermekbayev.
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the further expansion of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Ambassador Parahat Durdyyev congratulated the Secretary-General of the SCO on the New Year and wished him success in implementing the goals and objectives defined within the framework of the Organization’s activities.
The Turkmen diplomat noted the multifaceted nature of the SCO’s activities and the high level of interaction with Turkmenistan. He informed the Secretary-General of the SCO about various events planned by the Turkmen side for 2026, as well as about the progress of preparations for the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Independence of Turkmenistan.
Expressing sincere appreciation for the invitation and the opportunity to participate in the Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, the Secretary-General of the SCO, Nurlan Yermekbayev, warmly recalled his meeting with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the existence of significant potential for the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkmenistan and the SCO in such areas as trade and economy, transport and logistics, and humanitarian cooperation.
