On March 22-23 this year, Islamabad hosted the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
During the session, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, the Council adopted a resolution 64/48 on the Role of а Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development in the OIC area and globally.
It should be noted that this resolution is based on the eponymous resolution of the OIC Ministerial Council adopted in November 2020, and thus has become annual document fo the Council.
The main provisions of the resolution are as follows:
- Secures within the OIC the main documents of the United Nations on the international recognition of the Neutrality of Turkmenistan and the role of the policy of neutrality in maintaining international peace and stability;
- Welcomes the results of the Forum of Peace and Trust held in Ashgabat on December 11, 2021, and also supports the proposal of Turkmenistan to promote the global initiative “Dialogue is a guarantee of peace”, aimed at consolidating the efforts of the international community in strengthening the traditions of peaceful and trustful coexistence of peoples, the comprehensive establishment of culture peace and trust in international relations;
- Supports the further development within the United Nations of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace and Security and encourages the OIC Member States to join this Group;
and, what is very important,
- Establishes the mechanism of regular reports of the Secretary General of the OIC on the implementation of this resolution.
