International Water Conference was held in the UNESCO headquarters

On May 13-14, 2019, an International Water Conference was held in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris which was attended by a delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Chairman of the State Committee of Water Management A.Yazmyradov.

The aim of the Conference consisted of the discussions of inter-sectorial approach to water resources management, exchange of leading experience in the sphere of attainment of water resources by avoiding any harm to nature, rational use of water resources and their preserving, as well as providing consulting services to the countries on reaching the goals outlined in different international water programmes.         

The representatives of around 50 countries, heads and representatives of reputable international organizations, scholars and experts, representatives of major companies working in the water sphere, as well as the representatives of mass media participated in the Conference.  

During the ministerial session of the Conference, the head of delegation of Turkmenistan gave a speech on water diplomacy of our country including the relevant international initiatives of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.  Besides, the participants were informed in detail about the activities and concrete steps of Turkmenistan taken in the framework of its chairmanship in the International Fund of Saving the Aral Sea.     

The information on the construction of unique artificial lake “Altyn Asyr” in the Karakum desert and adjacent social infrastructure, the construction of which was recently started by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has been received with great attention.
