High level Turkmen-Italian talks were held in Rome

On the 6th of November 2019, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived to the Italian Republic on an official visit. In the Leonardo da Vinci di Fiumicino International Airport, the Turkmen leader was received by the high-ranking representatives of Italy and the members of the governmental delegation of Turkmenistan.     

From the airport, the motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan headed to the hotel “Rome Cavalieri” where the residence assigned to the Head of Turkmenistan for the visit was allocated.    

In the morning of November 7, the President of Turkmenistan participated in the business breakfast with the executives of the leading Italian companies. The constructive conversation on expanding the activities of the Italian companies in Turkmenistan took place during the meeting. It is worthwhile to note that during the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Italy, the head of state was accompanied by a numerous delegation which consisted not only of the representatives of the state sector, but also of the private sector of the country.    

Then the President of Turkmenistan met with the Prime-minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte. After the official meeting ceremony in the residence “Chigi” of the Prime-minister of the country, the talks were held in the “tête-à-tête” format and then in wide format with participation of the governmental delegations of Turkmenistan and the Italian Republic. During the meeting, the parties ascertained the adherence of both countries to further strengthening of mutually beneficial ties on the whole spectrum of cooperation.       

Upon the completion of the talks, the ceremony of signing a comprehensive package of bilateral documents was held which was aimed at facilitation of widening cooperation between various organizations of the two countries and regulating the activities in the energy, industry, transport, scientific-educational and other fields.

Then the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella. The meeting started with an official welcoming ceremony in the Quirinal Palace and passed in warm and friendly atmosphere. During the talks, the parties noted with satisfaction the high level of cooperation between the two countries in political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.  

The Presidents considered the key aspects of international agenda, noted the closeness of external political approaches to the peaceful resolution of modern challenges and affirmed the positive experience of cooperation in the framework of international organizations, primarily the UN, EU and OSCE.  

The heads of two states discussed the issues of developing cooperation in the oil and gas sector, industry, high technologies, as well as considered the favorable courses of collaboration in other fields. Special attention was given to the expansion of contacts between the business circles of the two countries.          

In addition, the parties spoke about the necessity of further strengthening of the cultural and humanitarian ties. The success of cooperation in the area of historical and archeological researches in participation of Italian scientists was highlighted. 

After the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan attended the official lunch organized in his honor on behalf of the President of the Italian Republic. Then the motorcade of the President of Turkmenistan headed to the memorial complex “Altare della Patria” situated on the Venezia Square in Rome where the head of state laid a wreath to the Monument of Unknown Soldier. 

After completing the programme of the official visit, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proceeded to the Fiumicino International Airport from where he departed home.
