On February 24, 2021, within the framework of the 83rd session of the Inland Transport Committee of Economic Commission for Europe upon the initiative of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Office in Geneva the parallel event in videoconferencing format dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Turkmenistan and International Year of Peace and Trust was organized under the title “Stability of transport and trade relations in the region of the Caspian sea during pandemic period”.
The event was attended by the Ambassadors and Representatives of the missions of Central Asian and Caspian littoral countries as well as representatives of international organizations.
At the beginning of the event, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe Ms.O Algayerova and Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva made their introductory presentations.
Then the speeches were made by Under-Secretary-General of the UN, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States Ms. Fekitamoeloa Katoa Utoikamanu, Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union Mr. Umberto de Pretto, as well as by the Ambassadors, Permanent Representatives of the countries and representatives of international organizations.
The participants of the event discussed the issues of the unification and cohesion of the transport logistics industry, which can become one of the most important and efficient directions of subsequent development and growth in 2021.
Also the participants of the meeting noted the significance of continuing and strengthening of the political dialogue with the aim of providing all-round interaction between all types of transport to assist to create sustainable multimodal transit corridors during pandemics.
At the meeting the Turkmen side informed about the celebration this year the 30th Anniversary of the Independence of Turkmenistan and preparations in the country to hold this year Transport Ministerial Conference for the landlocked developing countries.
