On August 2, 2016 at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan a working meeting of the joint working group on the adaptation of sustainable development goals was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly with the United Nations Office in Turkmenistan with the participation of the heads of missions, representations and UN agencies, representatives of the Mejlis, ministries and departments of Turkmenistan.
As part of the meeting there was a discussion of the SDGs list recommended for implementation in Turkmenistan for 15 years. Also indicators and SDGs stages for further work to implement them have been discussed. UN officials made a presentation on "Options for the coordination of the agenda of sustainable development goals in Turkmenistan for 15 years." In this context, questions of strategy and planning of the implementation of the SDGs were marked, as well as coordinating the efforts of the Turkmen ministries and departments with the UN agencies working in Turkmenistan. It was noted that the joint plans and programs developed together with the United Nations agencies are also methods of implementation of the SDGs.
The participants discussed the aims and objectives of the SDGs, which will be adapted by Turkmenistan on the basis of national priorities and the country's level of development at this stage, as well as exchanged views on the ways and means of integrating them into national programs and sectoral plans.
In conclusion, the next steps in the consultation on the adaptation of the SDGs were discussed by the participants.
