On December 11, 2025, a ceremony for the signing of the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Turkmenistan and the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe was held at the building of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.
The document was signed by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and the Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe Celso Vaz do Nascimento Matos.
Following the signing of the Protocol, the sides congratulated the governments and peoples of Turkmenistan and São Tomé and Príncipe on the establishment of diplomatic relations, emphasizing that this step would serve as an important impetus for further strengthening bilateral friendly ties, as well as for the development of political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation, including interaction within international organizations, primarily within the framework of the United Nations.
