On 8 January 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko.
During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the United Nations.
The head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan drew particular attention to the following areas of cooperation with the UN.
First, the diplomats discussed in detail the process of summarizing the results of the previous Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2021-2025. The importance of the work of the Steering Committee for the implementation of this Cooperation Framework was emphasized.
In this regard, the parties considered matters related to the arrangement of the work aimed at implementing the new Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2026-2030.
Secondly, the commitment of the Turkmen side in expanding the presence of offices of specialized agencies, structural units and programmes of the UN in Turkmenistan was underlined at the meeting.
Thirdly, the sides reviewed the progress of UN programme and project activities in Turkmenistan. It was noted that, within the framework of the signed documents, both bilateral and regional, tens of projects and programmes are being implemented currently.
In addition, the sides discussed the preparation and implementation of important joint events in the near future, in particular a joint conference with the FAO, courses for young diplomats, and others.
