

On 21 December 2026, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Qu Dongyu.
Expressing gratitude for the time devoted to the meeting, the guest emphasized the unwavering interest of the organization he leads in cooperation with Turkmenistan. At the same time, Qu Dongyu noted the importance of Turkmenistan’s international initiatives aimed at ensuring universal environmental well-being.
Warmly welcoming the head of the major international organization, the President emphasized that the regional conference on food security in the context of climate change, in which the guest will take part during his visit to Turkmenistan, will serve as an important platform for exchanging views on these pressing issues.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the conference will contribute to strengthening international cooperation, give impetus to new initiatives, and make a worthy contribution to addressing global food security challenges in the context of climate change. He stressed that cooperation with authoritative international organizations, primarily with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, is one of the key directions of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy.
Speaking about cooperation between Turkmenistan and FAO, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that a number of projects aimed at modernizing the agricultural sector are currently being implemented.
As emphasized, with FAO support, projects to increase agricultural productivity and improve land use have been successfully carried out in Turkmenistan, and modern technologies have been introduced. In addition, national and regional projects are being implemented to intensify efforts in the protection of agricultural crops. Initiatives are also being carried out within the framework of the Green Climate Fund and the “One Health” approach.
