On 29 January 2026, a further round of Turkmen–Russian political consultations was held in Ashgabat with the participation of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues related to the development of bilateral relations. In this context, they noted the steady progress in the friendly and trusting relations between the two countries, which are of a strategic nature.
It was noted with satisfaction that Turkmen-Russian cooperation is developing effectively not only in a bilateral format, but also in a multilateral format, as evidenced by constructive interaction within the framework of the UN and the CIS. The importance of partnership in the “Central Asia-Russia” format was also emphasized.
The diplomats confirmed their interest in strengthening dialogue between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries in accordance with the Program of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation for 2025-2026.
The sides also discussed issues of regional security and stability.
