On 13 March 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Head of the Regional Representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Central Asia Ms. Biljana Milosevic.
During the meeting, the sides discussed current issues of humanitarian cooperation as well as prospects for further development of interaction between Turkmenistan and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The Turkmen side emphasized that Turkmenistan, guided by its status of permanent neutrality, consistently advocates strengthening peace, trust and constructive international cooperation. Particular attention is paid to the humanitarian dimension of regional security and the protection of civilians.
The unwavering commitment of Turkmenistan to the norms of international humanitarian law and its support for the fundamental principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence of humanitarian activities were reaffirmed. The Turkmen side highly appreciated the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross in providing assistance to people facing difficult humanitarian conditions and in promoting international humanitarian law.
The sides exchanged views on the implementation of the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan to proclaim 2028 as the Year of International Law.
The interlocutors also discussed issues related to monitoring the humanitarian situation in the region and opportunities to expand cooperation, including exchange of experience, expert consultations and the organization of joint training events.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening the capacity of national structures involved in humanitarian response.
