

At the beginning of March 2026, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Bulgaria (with residence in Moscow) Esen Aydogdyev visited Sofia to participate in events marking Bulgaria’s national holiday, Liberation Day.
The Ambassador conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Iliana Yotova and the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Andrey Gurov.
During the visit, E.Aydogdyev met with Petko Doykov, Director General of the Directorate General for Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The Ambassador informed the Bulgarian side about the planned large-scale celebration of the National Day of the Turkmen Horse in Turkmenistan in 2026 and extended an invitation to Bulgarian representatives to participate in the festive events.
During the constructive talks, views were exchanged on a wide range of issues related to Turkmen-Bulgarian cooperation. Noting the significant potential of the partnership, the parties reaffirmed the need to intensify it at the interstate level and through international organizations, including the UN and the Turkmenistan – European Union dialogue.
Trade and economic cooperation, transport, healthcare, tourism, and a number of other sectors were identified as key areas of bilateral cooperation. In this regard, the organization of the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Bulgarian Commission on Economic Cooperation was discussed.
Speaking about interaction between the foreign policy departments, the diplomats discussed the timing of bilateral consultations.
The topics of keen discussion also included issues of cooperation in the areas of science, education and culture, and the continuation of the practice of holding joint events in this area.
