UNESCO Memory of the World Workshop held at the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan

On October 13-14, 2021, the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan hosted UNESCO Memory of the World workshop. The training сourse was attended by representatives of the Secretariat of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, the Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts named after Magtymguly of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, employees of the country's museums, students and teachers of the Turkmen State Institute of Culture.

The head of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Tehran Cvetan Cvetkovski addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

C.T.Rustamova made a welcoming speech on the part of the National Commission for UNESCO in Turkmenistan.

Director of the Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts named after Magtymguly D.Orazsakhedov, Head of the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan G.Magtymgulyeva presented information on the activities in the field of protection and popularization of the intangible cultural heritage in Turkmenistan.

During the discussions, the Chairperson of the Committee of the UNESCO Memory of the World Program in Australia Roslyn Russell and the consultant of this program, Joie Springer, spoke about the World Register of Intangible Cultural Monuments of the Memory of the World Program, introduced the participants to the history, basic principles and philosophy of the Program.  The experts also spoke about the Jikji Prize project, explained the conditions and requirements for receiving small grants from the Program.

On the second day, the discussions of the workshop participants continued, during the discussions, the experts had been asked a number of questions regarding the preparation of the nomination for the “Memory of the World” register, because of which a constructive conversation took place, which is of great importance for the Turkmen specialists. Roslyn Russell shared the experience of the Australian Memory of the World Committee, gave a number of advice and recommendations on the preparation of the nomination.

The executive secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO C.T.Rustamova made a closing speech, who noted the high level of knowledge of experts in the field of understanding the goals, objectives, methods and requirements for the preparation of nominations and thanked them for the recommendations of interest to the organizations of Turkmenistan.
