

On January 21, 2026, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Secretary for Western Affairs of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Sibi George.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of bilateral relations in the political, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
The importance of mutual meetings and visits at the highest political level was emphasized in order to develop Turkmen-Indian relations both bilaterally and within regional and international structures.
The diplomats confirmed their interest in strengthening the dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two countries. In this context, the possibility of organizing a meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of India in the near future was discussed.
The importance of developing trade and economic ties between the two countries was particularly emphasized.
The parties exchanged views on expanding cooperation mechanisms in this area in the context of preparations for the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation.
The diplomats emphasized the effectiveness of bilateral ties in education and culture.
