On 18 February 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted the first consultative meeting on the implementation of the 2026 Action Plan for the preparation and holding of the Year of International Law in 2028.
During the meeting, general information was presented on the developed Action Plan, which had been submitted at a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. The document provides for a comprehensive set of organizational-methodological, scientific and practical, educational, international, as well as information and communication activities.
It was noted that the initiative to proclaim 2028 as the Year of International Law was put forward by the President of Turkmenistan at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Action Plan covers five key areas, including organizational preparation, the holding of international scientific and practical conferences, the implementation of educational and awareness-raising initiatives, the organization of international and bilateral events, as well as support for youth and scientific initiatives.
Special attention is paid to strengthening international law as the foundation of global peace, trust and sustainable development, as well as to highlighting the potential of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality as an important political and legal instrument for maintaining stability and cooperation.
As part of the information support, it is envisaged to create a specialized section on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan dedicated to the Year of International Law, as well as to conduct broad explanatory work in national and international mass media.
Following the meeting, the readiness of relevant ministries and agencies for active interagency cooperation was confirmed.
