On May 10-11, 2017, the eighth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Belarusian Commission for Economic Cooperation was held in the capital of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk. The Co-chairman of the Commission from the Belarusian side was Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus A. Kalinin.
The Commission was attended by the heads and representatives of the leading ministries and industry departments, as well as representatives of business circles of the two states.
At the meeting, the sides presented information on the economic potential of the two countries. During the meeting of the Commission it was stressed that relations between Belarus and Turkmenistan were developing dynamically, during the period of cooperation about 90 agreements were signed in various spheres.
Vice Prime Minister of the Government of Belarus A. Kalinin said that Belarus and Turkmenistan intend to increase the trade turnover up to 500 million dollars. He recalled that in 2016 the foreign trade turnover between Belarus and Turkmenistan exceeded $ 120 million, and together with services it amounted to almost $ 300 million. "The task is rather complicated, but we will strive to achieve a similar level of trade and economic cooperation between our countries," Kalinin added.
At the meeting, an agreement was reached on the development of cooperation in the field of road and rail transport, in particular, the supply of railway cars to Turkmenistan, as well as an offer to the Belarusian side to participate in the construction of the automobile roads in Turkmenistan.
The visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan to Minsk took place from 10 to 12 May. The delegation members did not only take part in the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, but also visited such enterprises as Stadler Minsk, High-Tech Park, Minsktrans, National Electronic Services Center and the Belarusian Railways.
