The representatives of the littoral states discuss issues of cooperation in the fight against illegal extraction of biological resources of the Caspian Sea

On February 14, 2017 in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan the second meeting of the authorized representatives of the Caspian states on the discussion of the draft Protocol on cooperation in the fight against illegal extraction of biological resources (poaching) of ​​the Caspian Sea had been opened. The meeting was attended by the delegations from the Russian Federation, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

At the previous meeting, held in November 2016 in Ashgabat, the experts agreed on some provisions of the draft Protocol taking into account the suggestions and comments of relevant bodies in their respective countries.

During the meeting the participants called for the adoption of a set of joint measures aimed at the preservation and enhancement of the natural biodiversity of the Caspian Sea. The urgent tasks included the implementation of systematic monitoring of the state of biological resources and the marine environment of the reservoir.

Issues related to the Caspian Sea, occupy an important place in the foreign policy of neutral Turkmenistan. In this direction, our country is in favor of a constructive dialogue on the basis of national interests of all parties, the conservation of biological diversity, sustainable use of the rich resources of the Caspian Sea, strengthening its status as a sea of ​​peace, friendship and good neighborliness.

The second meeting of the authorized representatives of the Caspian states to discuss the draft protocol on cooperation in the fight against illegal extraction of biological resources (poaching) of ​​the Caspian Sea will continue until 16th of February.
