On May 5, 2017, a joint photo exhibition organized by the Permanent Missions of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan was held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The work of the exhibition was attended by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, heads of UN agencies, Permanent Representatives of the UN member states.
Opening the photo exhibition as a Dean, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN A.Ataeva noted that exactly two years ago in the UN yard the "Tree of Peace and Unity" was planted, which recalls the fragility of the world. "The world does not happen by itself. The world is not just the absence of war. Like this tree, the world needs to be nurtured, protected and supported", A. Ataeva said.
In his speech, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the end of World War II created the conditions for the establishment of the United Nations, designed to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war. He also called on the UN member states to unite their efforts in combating new challenges and threats with the central role of the UN.
The exhibition featured black-and-white photos of the war era that reflect the contribution of all the countries of the former USSR to the Victory over Nazism, as well as photographs of the monuments of different states in memory of the victims of the war.
