The issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the ODIHR/OSCE discussed in Warsaw

            On February 1, 2017 the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan W.Hadjiev had a meeting with the Director of the ODIHR/OSCE M.Link in the Office of the Organization in Warsaw, Poland.

 During the meeting, which was held in a positive atmosphere, the sides exchanged views on prospects for activation of bilateral cooperation.

As was noted, Turkmenistan, following its obligations in accordance with the ratified conventions and other instruments of international law, takes consistent steps to implement the provisions of the basic instruments relating to the rights and freedoms of the individual.

President of Turkmenistan pursued policies aimed at intensification of broad international dialogue, including in the legal field, which is clearly reflected in the systematic invitation to Turkmenistan of international observers from many foreign countries and major international organizations to participate in monitoring the various election campaigns. In particular, the presidential election to be held on 12 February 2017 will be an important event in the political life of the country.

While appreciating the measures taken by Turkmenistan on the path of democratic reforms, Mr. M. Link noted that the ODIHR/OSCE for its part is ready to continue to cooperate fully with the Turkmen partners in the promotion of legal reform aimed at improving the national legislation and the electoral system, the deepening of democracy processes in general.

It was noted that the positive dynamics of the partnership achieved in recent years between Turkmenistan and the OSCE, becomes of particular importance in this regard, including the mutual exchange of experience and familiarization with the applicable norms and standards of international law at the expense of regular consultations, educational seminars, meetings and "round tables" with the invitation of international experts in the field of civil law.

At the end of the meeting the sides expressed mutual confidence in the successful continuation of fruitful partnership that meets the common interests and priorities of development of Turkmenistan.
