A review of the country's foreign policy activities for the first half of 2020 was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

On July 6, 2020, a meeting was held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to review the results of the country's foreign policy activities for the first half of 2020, which is being implemented under the wise leadership of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The meeting was attended by leaders and employees of the diplomatic service of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the main achievements of the country's foreign policy were announced. The high level of interaction of Turkmenistan with the countries of the region and within the framework of international structures was emphasized. In this context, special emphasis was placed on the fact that Turkmenistan was recently elected to Vice-chairmanship of the upcoming 75th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The meeting participants heard reports on the work done since the beginning of this year, exchanged views and recommendations for the second half of the year.

An important segment of the meeting was an expanded presentation of the main vectors of ecological diplomacy of the country. Thus, the participants listened to the report of the Foreign Ministry specialist in the field of environmental protection on the promotion of the new Caspian environmental program, which the President of Turkmenistan initiated during the first Caspian Economic Forum, held on August 12, 2019 in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone. In this regard, the importance of preserving the ecosystem of the Caspian Sea in the context of global climate change was discussed. The important contribution of Turkmenistan to the promotion of the goals of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, in particular, improving the environmental and socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin was also noted. In this context, the importance of enhancing cooperation within the framework of the Regional Environmental Program for Sustainable Development in Central Asia (REP4SD-CA) was emphasized.

The issues related to Turkmenistan’s joining the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity were also considered.
