On April 2, 2018 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (in Hanoi), the first Turkmen-Vietnamese political consultations took place between foreign ministries of the two countries at the level of deputy foreign ministers. The Vietnamese delegation at the talks was headed by First Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.
During the consultations, the current state and perspective directions of the development of bilateral relations in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres were analyzed. The sides noted with satisfaction the need for regular political consultations, which were one of the important mechanisms that contribute to the promotion of the Turkmen-Vietnamese all-round partnership. Among the priority areas of cooperation the sides mentioned cooperation in the framework of international organizations, primarily the UN and ASEAN.
Speaking about the commitment of the parties to the expansion of friendly relations, which were built on the principles of trust and mutual respect, the sides stressed the role of high-level visits, which will serve as a good start to the development of comprehensive and mutually beneficial relations of friendship and cooperation between our states and peoples.
In the field of trade and economic cooperation, the parties discussed the possibilities of activating mutual contacts, taking into account the conclusion of relations in this direction to a new level, as well as taking measures aimed at increasing export-import operations and expanding the range of goods and services supplied. With the aim of expanding and developing trade and economic relations, the need was noted for the establishment of a solid legal base.
In addition, during the talks, the parties discussed prospects for the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as expanding relations in the fields of education, science, sports and tourism. The parties also agreed to explore the possibilities of organizing the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in Vietnam and the Days of Vietnamese Culture in Turkmenistan.
