On April 16, 2020, a meeting between representatives of several ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and international experts of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was held in the format of a videoconference in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
At the beginning of the meeting, speaking about the contribution of Turkmenistan to economic growth for the society interests, the World Intellectual Property Organization experts noted that thus Turkmenistan stimulates creative activity and innovation.
During the meeting, WIPO activities in the last few years, the role of intellectual property in innovations, and the protection of intellectual property in the region have been discussed. Special attention was paid to the issues of copyright protection, policy in the area of educating and training the specialists, including the advancement of qualifications in a number of specialized fields of intellectual property in the higher education institutions and research organizations of Turkmenistan, as well as the role of WIPO Academy in training of specialists was noted. The parties focused on the methodology for developing this policy and on issues of teaching the basics of intellectual property in higher educational institutions of the country.
