On October 16-18, 2017, a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan arrived in Bucharest, comprising the head of the department of international organizations and the head of the department of European countries.
During the visit, a regular round of Turkmen-Romanian inter-ministerial consultations on cooperation in the framework of international organizations was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania on October 16, and on October 17, political consultations took place on the issues of bilateral cooperation at the level of the heads of the relevant divisions. The Romanian side was headed by Ms Maria Ciobanu, Director of the United Nations Office, Specialized Agencies and Francophonie and Mr. Cornel Ionescu, Director of Eastern Europe and Central Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania.
During the consultations, the sides discussed issues of effectiveness of interaction within the UN and its specialized structures. Speaking about cooperation within the UN, the Turkmen side acquainted the Romanian side with the priority positions of Turkmenistan that were presented at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in September 2017.
Discussing the issues of bilateral cooperation, the parties noted the good pace of development of the Turkmen-Romanian relations in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. Particular attention was paid to energy and transport issues.
Also during the visit, the Turkmen delegation was received by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Mr. Dan Nekulaesku. At the meeting, the sides stressed the importance of holding regular political consultations and noted that due to mutual efforts, bilateral relations are aimed at a consistent and dynamic development and access to new forms of cooperation in various directions.
